Beefsteak fungus
The Beefsteak fungus is so named, I assume, as it does at one stage of its life appear to bleed……though here it looks more like honeycomb to me. It’s rarely fatal to the tree on which it grows and indeed adds a dark brown colouring to the wood which in oak in particular is valued by furniture makers. So, maybe not so good for the tree after all!
