One of my father’s obsessions just before he died earlier this year, was to reintroduce sticklebacks to the nature pond in my parent’s garden. I’m pleased to say that at least some of those which were introduced have now grown to a pretty impressive size (for a Stickleback).
By a very strange coincidence I came across this shoal of much smaller ones in a local pond where I’ve never seen them before. Indeed, this pond dried up completely only a few years ago so I don’t know how these ‘backs made their way there. Nice to find anyway, I shall monitor their progress with interest (and hope they don’t eat too many of the Damselfly larvae).
