Fans of US crime shows can rest assured that GSW stands for Great Spotted Woodpecker here, rather than Gun Shot Wound. We have at least three young GSWs coming to the feeder in the weeping willow at the moment, sometimes there’s even a queue. Excellent to watch, always.

Lucky you! I often hear them in the trees out back at home, and at the allotments, but rarely catch more than a glimpse of one now and again.
A gsw occasionally visits our garden, but I'd never noticed those spots before, even though they are so distinctive. Such a stylish bird!

Wonderful shot of this youngster, we are enjoying watching a family too
Oooh, you have solved 2 mysteries at our house with a single picture, thanks!
1. A GSW has been making the holes in the dead branch of our twisted willow
2. That's what the knocking noise outside was in the early morning back in May/June.
Long time no post ~ hope everything is ok! Miss the pictures.
We also miss your pictures and info and hope all is well with you and your family.
I need an oak picture! Are the leaves turning at all yet, is the sprig at the top still there, how is the grass… I hope all is well!
