Eight days ago the frogs in our allotment pond were present and frisky. Yesterday they were nowhere to be seen but had left a large quantity of spawn behind, not quite as much as last year but it’s the earliest we’ve seen it around here and three weeks earlier than last year! With warnings of possible frosts over the next few days I wonder about their sanity (or access to weather forecasts).

Interesting, yes, everything seems earlier this year. I haven't seen any frogs here yet (near Manchester, so normally later than where you live). They normally spawn in the first week of April, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sometime in the next couple of weeks.
What an amazing mass of creation! Terrific photo ~ here's to spring and ribbit ribbit.
Theres something fascinating about frog spawn and tadpoles, the last of our tadpoles became dwarf green tree frogs and have all hopped away. It would be great if we can see yours at a later stage.
I hope we get frog spawn next spring in our new pond. I love this photo, can I ask which lens you used?
Thanks Karen…if you dig it they will come!
The Sigma 150mm macro….non-OS version (I'm not sure if the OS version is actually out yet). One of my favourite lenses, but then I love all things macro. The Sigma 105mm macro is also very good, lighter, cheaper but somewhat slower at focusing but it does work well with smaller dSLRs.
Thanks Nic, I'm on the look out for a good macro and trying to decide between Canon or Sigma. I've heard good reports on Sigma so far.
Wonderful photos on your blog. This froggy one in particular is quite appealing.
